‘Julie’s Story’ is one of a series of short documentary films I directed for Convatec, exploring the lived experiences of people with stomas. Created as part of a wider campaign to highlight the prevalence of hidden physical health conditions, the films empower real people to tell their stories in a bid to reduce societal stigma around stomas and hidden conditions.

Julie has had multiple stoma operations and life-threatening complications since her early teenage years and now lives with a permanent ileostomy. Despite the stigma and misunderstanding she has faced over the years around her stoma, Julie’s resilience and dignity shines through. She now channels her experiences into altruism - having created a stoma group to offer friendship and support for others navigating the challenges of living with a stoma.
