This is a short documentary insight into artist Stephen Wright and his remarkable life’s work - his own house, 'The House of Dreams’.

Situated on the ground floor of his London home, The House of Dreams is currently over two decades in the making. Stephen began the project in 1999 with his former partner, Donald. Despite losing Donald two years into the project and his parents soon after, Stephen was compelled to keep creating as a means of processing his grief and creating a "new" family within the house. The walls, floor and ceiling are adorned with a vast array of vivid and striking objects, ranging from dolls' heads to bottle caps; false teeth to tinsel. Some of these items Stephen has collected during his travels, others serve as mementos of those dear to him, present and past. Some are even from strangers he has never met; who have been moved by their own experience of visiting the house.

Stephen's House of Dreams is an inspirational and hauntingly beautiful project that serves as a diary of his life and a vessel to channel the spectrum of experiences of what it means to be human - grief, loss, love, hope and joy. According to Stephen, the house will never be finished and will far outlive him, reinforcing the notion of legacy and the mark we each leave in this world. He plans to leave it to the National Trust in the future.

The House of Dreams is open to the public for eight days a year and visitors can book to see it for themselves on Stephen's website:
